From an early age, the reasons behind why we do what we do has fascinated me. I took that fascination and directed it towards a career in social work. I believe that as people, we will do well if we can and that sometimes we need help building skills to allow us to be our best selves. While my therapeutic orientation is eclectic and varies depending on my client’s needs, I have a focus on Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy.
My Education, Training, and Experience:
I obtained my undergraduate degree in social work (BSW) in 2005 from Eastern Washington University. While there, I worked with WSU’s Child and Family Research Unit where I worked as a research assistant. Our focus was Intimate Partner Violence, Early Childhood Education and Community Mental Health. Then, in 2007 I completed my Master of Social Work program at Walla Walla University with a focus on school social work.
After graduation, I worked for a counseling agency serving children and families. After a year in that role, I made my way to the school setting where I have spent the last 10 years. During those 10 years, I have worked with children in an individual, group and classroom setting. In addition, I worked for Spokane Public Schools as a Behavior Specialist. Currently, I work for Walla Walla Public Schools as a Mental Health Specialist and I support the whole district. I have my Social Worker Associate Independent Clinical License (SC60568588) through the Department of Health and am receiving supervision by a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker.
